Jane Wilson

Jane Wilson’s work nestles between the world of representation and abstraction. Much of it is done from memory, she manages to include many qualities of abstract expressionism with landscape painting. Her interest in and ability to convey such ephemeral concepts like the weather, can be traced to her longstanding and intimate relationship with the limitless landscapes of her Iowa youth.

She was also an educator and taught at Parsons School of Design, where she was my teacher, and Columbia University.

What I’m aiming for are moments of strong sensation ⎯ moments of total physical experience of the landscape, when weather just reaches out and sucks you in.
