Per Giordano da Angelica
Gordano Bruno a symbol of free thought was chosen as the subject for this piece. The Angelica library also represents intellectual liberty because it was the first library open to the public. That is what they have in common. The flowing repetitive image and layout recall paper as it is being printed with a mechanical press in the process of making books. So books again are the protagonists.
The image of Giordano Bruno turns and moves recalling his “heretical” ideas of the cosmos. Italian historian Andrea Del Col estimates that out of 51,000 — 75,000 cases judged by Inquisition in Italy after 1542 around 1,250 resulted in a death sentence.
The printed image is repeated 1.250 times. However, each one is rendered unique, (like each life lost) by a mark done by hand.
